Garmin Vivosmart HR (3) ~ detail heart rate data analysis

Detail plot for heart rate reading comparison

Detail Data analysis

The previous comparison used a plot generated by Garmin Connect.  It is not really good comparison because the scales are not the same.  It is not clear how much offset between the two.  Therefore, I wrote a simple script to process data and comparing on Microsoft Excel.

What the script does is downloading TCX file from Garmin Connect website.  Then the both measurement data, which is Forerunner 910XT with the chest heart rate sensor and Vivosmart HR with the wrist based heart rate sensor, on the same plot.
The both of them samples every a few seconds, but they are not really synchronize the sampling.  Therefore, based on the time stamp for each record, the script sorts the data.  Just looking at the plot, the both reading is almost identical.  This is a data for Stair Master and Treadmill for 30 minutes each in a gym.
I am capturing some different type of training.  I will do more detail analysis for each and posing the result.

 The other impressions

I like Vivosmart HR better than the previous model, Vivosmart.  The display gets a lot of improvements, it is clear and better.   The operation is also improved.  The battery life on the specification says up to 5 days.  However, it is about 3~4 days with my usage which includes 1 hour workout everyday.

The sleeping monitoring is getting much better especially auto detection.  I do not have to adjust the time for Vivosmart HR.   The previous model, I had to correct what Vivosmart detects.  Probably it uses the heart rate information somehow.  It is a big improvement from the previous model.

I will continue to post some different training data.  So far, it is very good product!
